Positive and negative numbers

A number greater than zero is considered positive. Positive numbers may be written with or without a "+" sign. Conversely, a number less than zero is negative, and these are always denoted with a "-" sign. To determine if a number is positive or negative, always check the sign preceding it. Note that zero is neither positive nor negative. Familiarizing yourself with a number line can assist in comprehending this concept.

How to multiply and divide negative and positive numbers

Multiplication is commutative. This means that the order in which you multiply two numbers does not matter, for example, 3 x 5 is the same as 5 x 3. The product is the result when two or more numbers are multiplied together. Calculations can be shown with brackets around negative numbers to make them easier to understand, such as -3 × -1, which is equivalent to (-3) × (-1). Understanding positive and negative numbers will aid in multiplying and dividing negative numbers.

When providing an exact number isn't required, numbers can be rounded. Rounding involves simplifying a number while maintaining its approximate value. Although rounding makes numbers less precise, it makes them easier to handle. For instance, if there were 39,828 attendees at a music concert, a newspaper headline might report that 40,000 fans were present.
